an interview to make things clear to me

hi, me. i was wondering: why are you doing this? seriously, i have no idea. please explain.

well, me, it's a pretty good question. it's hard to say for sure. i'm going to be making a little comic every weekday for (hopefully) a decent length of time. even though i'm basically going to be drawing stick figures, that's a huge time commitment for me. stick figures take me a really long time to draw, because i'm artistically handicapped. i have a difficult time making a straight line or a circle.

so why, exactly, would you want to make a comic?

hmmm. i've had this idea and these characters in my head for a year or two. i've drawn a few strips just to see what it would come out looking like, and of course i'm bitterly disappointed by my lack of skill. but these characters still bump around inside my brain, so i've got to get them out somehow. you'd think i could just write some short stories, but somehow these characters are bumping around as stick figures. i'm not sure how that happened.

why the daily grind?

i've been reading journal comics for a while, and i frequented the pages of some daily grinders before the first grind began. i guess i need some incentive to get this comic out of me, and nothing drives me more than money. more specifically, my lack of it. i don't really want to win the grind, because that'd mean me beating out a bunch of really great comic artists whose work i'd much rather see. i'm pretty sure i'm supposed to talk smack, but i may be incapable of that.

who are you, by the way?

i am some guy. i'm about to finish up my undergraduate degree in creative writing, and really have no way of surviving in this harsh, cold world. i'm a musician and web designer and writer and filmmaker and photographer and all sorts of stuff like that. hopefully my site will have interesting things on it some time in the near future.

*update*
so...scott kurtz and greg dean are in on this now.

that's not a question, but yeah, those guys have been in my daily comic rounds for something like five years. crazy.

also...1200 hits to this page so far today(02/28/05, 6:30cst).

huh.
